Compare the main printing options
| Option | Best for | Check before printing |
|---|---|---|
| Retail photo lab | Convenient 4 x 6 photo-paper output | Confirm the preview shows the entire 4 x 6 sheet and does not auto-crop the edges. |
| Home photo printer | Immediate prints and repeat testing | Use appropriate photo paper, select the correct paper size and disable fit-to-page scaling. |
| Dedicated passport-photo service | Users who want help with capture, lighting and physical cutting | Confirm the service follows the current requirements for your exact document. |
A simple accuracy check after printing
Before cutting, measure the outside 4 x 6 sheet and one of the individual squares. If the sheet or 2 x 2 cell is noticeably off-size, do not compensate by cutting differently. Reprint with automatic scaling or cropping turned off.
Use the receiving authority as the final source
Document-photo rules can change. Use this site to prepare dimensions and catch common image problems, then verify the latest requirements on the official website for the document you are submitting.
Before you pay for a print
Check the lab preview for automatic cropping. The full 4 x 6 image should remain visible, and the finished sheet should measure 4 x 6 inches before you cut the individual 2 x 2 photos.
If you have not created the sheet yet, start with the print 2x2 photo tool and step-by-step guide.
